ESU Nanuchka II Corvette

The Nanuchka II is a standard light ship in the ESU navy. Designed more for police actions rather than heavy combat. It is armed with beam weapons, as per ESU doctrine.

ESU Lenov Scout

The Lenov scout is a fairly weak ship. It is not designed for combat and the fragile hull reflects this. It is, however, one of the fastest ships in the ESU fleet, making it ideal for courier duty.

ESU Fighters

Here are the fighters for the last of the four major human factions in the Full Thrust universe, the Eurasian Solar Union. They were formed from the union of the former USSR and China. Since the national flags of both countries are red and yellow, I elected to use those colors to paint their ships. Above is the Kilo fighters, which I interpret as interceptors. Below, we have the Katya, which are the medium fighters of the group.
Last we have the Kisha, which I interpret either as heavy assault fighters or bombers.

UNSC Retribution Modular Cruiser

This is the UNSC Retribution Modular Cruiser. The show did show us a mix of escort ships for the UNSC JFK carrier. I thought if the JFK was a new design as a result of the war with the Chigs, what would escort ships look like based on those designs. This is my concept for the larger of the 2nd generation escorts. The ship is modular. That means that it can be configured on the fly for various mission profiles. The ship above in configured for attack with 4 laser turrets. Below the ship is configured strictly for missile bombardment.
There is also a configuration for long range attack with 2 railguns:
Obviously, you can also mix an match the above configurations. This ship is available as a kit. Please see the "Ships for Sale" section for details.

UNSC Tempest Adv. Destroyer

The Tempest is one of the UNSC second generation designs based on the construction principles of the JFK carrier. It is a modular design and can be rapidly adapted for multiple roles. It also has a longer endurance than the first generation ships and can patrol for extended periods of time without resupply.

UNSC Triumphant Heavy Destroyer

The largest of the first generation designs. It is primary armed with missile launchers and a railgun for anti-ship duties. It also has smaller laser turrets for anti-fighter duties. It is the most versatile of the first generation designs.

Thursday, August 29, 2013

UNSC Damocles Destroyer

The UNSC Damocles destroyer is an older design that specializes in anti-ship duties. It is armed with missile launchers and multiple lasers for anti-ship duties. Like other first generation designs, range is limited.

Monday, August 26, 2013

UNSC Connestoga Escort

Finding pictures for escort ships was rather difficult. They only appear near the end of the show's run, and even then, only for very brief moments. This is my interpretation of some of the escort ships. The smallest one is the Connestoga escort. My concept is this is a first generation UNSC ship designed for close escort duty. It has limited range, however, is heavily armed. It is gradually being phased out for the second generation modular ships, however, is still useful in protecting the JFK carriers from other ships.

UNSC Escorts

These are my interpretation of the 3 types of escorts that were seen on the show. I could not find any official descriptions or designations for these ships anywhere, so I made my own. In back is the Damocles class destroyer. It is designed for ship to ship combat with 2 missile launchers, a heavy laser cannon and 2 smaller laser turrets. On the left is the Triumphant class Heavy Destroyer. It is armed iwth 2 missile racks, 4 small laser turrets and a railgun (on the underside). It was designed primarily for escort duties, however, it can participate in long range bombardment. The ship in front is the Connestoga  escort. They function as small attack ships to finish off damaged enemy vessels. The only escort ship that is missing is what apparently looks like a cargo transport. The above ships are for sale on my site.

Space: Above and Beyond UNSC Ships

I had previously posted pictures of the UNSC John F. Kennedy class supercarrier from Space: Above and Beyond (S:AAB). I thought it was a great looking, utilitarian ship capturing the no-nonsense approach of the military. Near the end of the series, we got to see clips of the UNSC escort ships. The only models of the UN ships that existed were of the JFK supercarriers. No models existed of the smaller escort ships. This is my attempt to correct that deficiency. In the top right is the JFK class supercarrier. In the bottom are my interpretation of three of the escorts that were seen in the TV show. The other two ships are what I view as second generation "advanced" ships. Basically ships that were developed after the start of the Chig conflict that are based on the lines of the JFK. Here is a top view of the ships:
I thought the show had potential. I wish they had more images of the ships as I had to make some significant guesses as to how they were supposed to look. Overall, I am happy with the results.

FSE Fleet

This is the full FSE Fleet. I will need to get some more old style fighters, however, it is pretty impressive as it stands. Additional photos can be seen in the FSE gallery.

Sunday, May 19, 2013

FSE Jeanne D'Arc Fleet Carrier

One of the largest ships in the Tuffyverse. It carries 7 flight groups (more than the fleet carriers of other navies) and is heavily armed. It is also relatively mobile for such a large ship.

Thursday, May 16, 2013

FSE Bologna Light Carrier

Now we come to the carriers. This is the smaller of the two. It can carry up to 4 fighter groups. Its size allows it to be well armed and stand in the battleline if needed.

Sunday, May 12, 2013

FSE Foch Superdreadnought

Probably one of the largest human ships in the Tuffyverse. The Foch is a huge ship. For comparison, the base is 1.375 inches from flat to flat.

Thursday, May 9, 2013

FSE Bonaparte Dreadnought

One of the "new designs" of the FSE. This was the first to leave the shipyards. There is a huge jump in size from the Roma to the Bonaparte

FSE Roma Battleship

This is the first of the heavy hitters in the FSE fleet. It uses an upgraded Ypres hull to add additional weapons. It probably is better classified as a heavy battlecruiser.

Thursday, May 2, 2013

FSE Ypres Battlecruiser

The big brother to the Jerez and the precursor to the Roma Battleship. It was not built in large numbers as most of its missions can be performed adequately by the Jerez at a lower cost. The limited production is solely for export.

Sunday, April 28, 2013

FSE Jeres Heavy Cruiser

This is the workhorse of the FSE fleet. Well armed with salvo missiles and beams. A well rounded ship.

Thursday, April 25, 2013

FSE Milan Escort Cruiser

A common sight in FSE fleets. The Milan can also function as effective combat ships in cruiser squadrons.

FSE Suffren Light Cruiser

The main FSE light cruiser design. The large hull gives it room for multiple weapon loadouts. Despite its age, it is still a core component of the FSE Fleet.

Sunday, April 21, 2013

FSE Trieste Heavy Destroyer

Basically an enlarged San Miguel Destroyer. It mounts a magazine fed submunition pack, giving it a heavy punch. It is as large as some light cruisers in other navies.

Thursday, April 18, 2013

FSE San Miguel Destroyer

Now wer are getting to the larger ships. This is primarily a beam armed ship, however, a variant exists which is armed with salvo missiles. These ships are larger than corresponding destroyers in other fleets, making it easier to paint the national emblem on the ships.

Sunday, April 14, 2013

FSE Requin Strikeboat

A more recent FSE design (it's not in Fleet Book 1). Designed as a cheap combat platform that can be produced at smaller shipyards, the Requin is a proven design for both local defense and rapid strike capability. Armed strictly with submunition packs, which gives these small ships a powerful punch.

Thursday, April 11, 2013

FSE Ibiza Frigate

A relative small frigate, however versatile in its armament. It shares many design similarities with the Athena. In terms of starship design, the asymmetric contour Ibiza and the Athena are interesting and these two ships are probably my favorite ships in the FSE fleet.

Sunday, April 7, 2013

FSE Athena Corvette

Athenas a small, fast escort ships armed with submunition packs and beams. They are slowly being replaced with newer corvettes, however, are still under production for use as colonial defense. A small, but versatile ship.

FSE Mistral Scoutship

FSE ship doctrine uses ordinance as their primary offensive armament with beam weapons as secondary. Defensively, ships emphasize mobility over armor/screens. To compensate for the fragile hull, FSE ships tend to be larger than the comparable classes in the other human factions. The Mistral scoutship is an example of this combat doctrine. Variants exist which replace a beam with a submunition pack or with armor.

FSE fighters

Switching gears to the 3rd main human faction in the Tuffyverse. After the split of the European Space Force in 2101, The Federal Stats Europa (L'Astromarine) formed one of the major remnants of that organization (the other is the NSL). Fleet doctrine emphasizes mobility instead of defense. Offensively, they rely upon ordinance and therefore are susceptible to disruption to supply lines.

In deciding how to paint these ships, I went to the Full Thrust Wiki for ideas. The national flag colors are yellow and dark blue. I did not want to use a dark blue base for the ship as it may make some of the details harder to see. I did have a bluish grey, which I think would be more appropriate for military ships. What you see are some of the results. Shown above are the Mirage IX fighters. Below are the larger Camerone heavy fighters.

Painting was relatively straightforward. Start with a hippo grey (Ceramcoat) basecoat. Follow with a heavy drybrush of wedgewood blue (Ceramcoat). Detail the cockpit and engines.

NSL Fleet

Here is the full NSL fleet. A rather impressive collection of ships ready to smash through the line of battle of opposing fleets. The green shade goes well with the blocky design aesthetic of the NSL. This was a fun fleet to paint.

Edit: A link was placed on the Gallery page to additional pictures of the NSL Fleet.

NSL Der Theurerdank Fighter Carrier

Based of the Von Tegetthoff hull, the Der Theurerdank carrier is a fleet carrier that is designed to slug it out which other ships while transporting fighters to the battlefield. Its fighter complement is smaller compared to other fleet carriers, however, it can dish out and take more punishment than other ships in its class.

Thursday, March 14, 2013

NSL Freidreich Light Carrier

A relatively new addition to the NSL fleet. The Freidrich was introduced to correct one of the operational deficiencies of the NSL fleet, the lack of fighters. The ship is designed to ferry fighters from one combat area to the next. It has an good defensive capabilities, however, lacks in offensive armament.

Sunday, March 10, 2013

NSL Von Tegetthoff Superdreadnought

The "big gun" of the NSL fleet. This ship is designed for slugfests with heavy armor and beam armament. It also carries one flight of fighters for additional operational flexibility.

Thursday, March 7, 2013

NSL Istvan Battledreadnought

A recent addition to the NSL fleet. It is one of the smaller NSL ships to carry fighters. These are multirole ships intended for independent actions.

Sunday, March 3, 2013

NSL Von Burgand Battelship

The Von Burgand shares a similar design lineage with the Maximilian BC. Like the Maximilian, it is heavily armed with beams and protection consists of armor and PDS systems. It also carries a pulse torpedo as secondary armarment as befits a ship of the line.

Thursday, February 28, 2013

NSL Richthoven Battlecruiser

An upgrade to the Maximilian BC. It has a slightly better beam armament at the cost of a reduction in armor.

Monday, February 25, 2013

NSL Maximilian Battlecruiser

An older NSL battlecruiser design. The ship is loaded with batteries and armor and follows the NSL doctrine of slow, but tough and heavily armed ships.

Sunday, February 17, 2013

NSL Markgraf Heavy Cruiser

The Markgraf heavy cruiser is probably the most well rounded ship in the NSL fleet. It is well armed with offensive beam weapons and defended by heavy armor. An overall tough ship.

Thursday, February 14, 2013

NSL Radetzky Escort Cruiser

A slightly larger ship that fulfills a similar role as the Kronprinz Wilhelm. However, with the larger size, it includes additional offensive armament that makes it more effective in fleet engagements.

Sunday, February 10, 2013

NSL Kronprinz Wilhelm Light Cruiser

Now we are getting into the capital ships. The Wilhelm CL is designed mostly for escort and patrol duties. It is well armed and armored with point defense systems and armor. A tough escort.

Thursday, February 7, 2013

NSL Waldburg/M Missile Destroyer

Essentially identical to the Waldburg, except with the addition of missile pods. Used more for hit and run missions rather than slugging it out in a fleet engagement.

Sunday, February 3, 2013

NSL Waldburg Destroyer

A general purpose destroyer in the NSL fleet. Follows the NSL ship doctrine for heavy armament, low manuverability.

Thursday, January 31, 2013

NSL Ehrenhold Frigate

One of the newer ships in the NSL fleet. A sturdy little ship used in convoy escort duties. Armed primarily with batteries, it can cause significant damage to ships larger than its size class. Painting started with a dark green undercoat and successively applied lighter green drybrushes to highlight the detail. Finished with painting additional details on the ship.

Sunday, January 20, 2013

NSL Stroschen Corvette

NSL design doctrine is emphasizes survivability over speed. Ships are heavily armored without shields. Primary armament consists of beam weapons with supplementary munitions. The Stroschen follows this design doctrine and its beam weapons can damage heavier ships.

Thursday, January 17, 2013

NSL Falke Scoutship

Here is a squadron of Falke scoutship. Compared to other scouts, it is more heavily armoured at the costs of armament. A strike variant exists. These ships were difficult to mount because of their size and shape. However, they were relatively easy to paint.

Slight rearrangement

I have made a slight rearrangement to the layout of this blog. Links to albums of the various ships have been moved from the side to a separate page. You can now navigate to the Galleries page from the tabs on top. Hopefully, this will make it easier for you to find additional photos of the ships.

NSL Fighters

Starting off the new year with ships from the Neu Swabian League from full thrust. Starting off will be the fighters. Above are the Adler fighters, which are responsible for interception.
Here, we have Wulf multi, role fighters and finally the Wespe assault fighters
